Programmable Controllers
What is a Programmable Controller?
A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), equipped with a microprocessor, executes user-defined programs to control devices. It receives input signals, processes them using custom programs, and subsequently commands output devices.
Ladder logic is a graphical programming language and commonly used for PLC programming. Programming software, such as CX-Programmer, is used for programming on a PC.
Inside a PLC
I/O devices link to the PLC’s input and output sections. The user program dictates output device actions based on input device status. Both the user program and I/O device states are stored in the PLC’s internal memory.
Types of Data
The types of data used by a PLC can be classified into three major groups.
